Looking for South Calgary Homes: consider buying in Acadia, ranking #4 among Calgary’s Best neighbourhoods 2016.

With streets lined with mature trees and charming family-friendly homes that started going up in 1960, the community of Acadia is a pleasant reminder of what Calgary was like when it was a much smaller city, even though the neighbourhood’s proximity to major traffic arteries gives residents easy access to all the benefits that come with the city’s growth.

Bordered by Macleod Trail on the west and Blackfoot Trail on the east, Acadia sits north of Southland Drive and south of Heritage Drive, putting it right alongside some of the southeast’s busiest commercial zones. But, despite being so close to that retail bustle, the core of Acadia remains a quiet and friendly community, favoured by families as well as child-free households, with an almost 50/50 mix of owner-occupied and rented homes. Acadia South Calgary Homes for Sale

Part of Acadia’s appeal is an abundance of recreational facilities, with the City-run Acadia Aquatic & Fitness Centre providing a variety of programs and the Acadia Recreation Complex and Acadia Athletic Park offering activities including skating, curling and flag football. In addition to having a good number of grocery and drug stores, Acadia also ranks well for its number of bars, pubs and entertainment venues, but one of its biggest selling points is the sheer number of schools in the area. With regular and alternative-program elementary and junior high schools in both the public and separate systems and Lord Beaverbrook High School, young students have a wide range of options right inside the neighbourhood. With the Calgary Farmers’ Market just northeast of the community’s boundaries and the Market on Macleod to the west, easy access to the main arteries of Blackfoot, Deerfoot and Macleod as well as the LRT line running up the western edge of Acadia, it’s no wonder that this gem of a neighbourhood is still thriving 55 years after its inception.
