The residential district of Calgary’s SE includes the communities of Auburn Bay, Copperfield, Cranston, Douglasdale/Glen, Ogden, Mahogany, McKenzie Lake, McKenzie Towne, New Brighton, South Foothills and Seton. Each of the SE communities has a charm and appeal of its own:

Auburn Bay
Auburn Bay CondosThis community is south of highway 22X and east of Highway 2. This 900-acre master-planned community will eventually have 6,000 homes encircling a 43-acre freshwater lake.

Lake Auburn is the focal point of this community, which also has 13 acres of parkland around the lake. The recreational facilities will include tennis courts, beach volleyball, basketball, a fishing dock, picnic areas, a toboggan hill, a fire pit, a creek and waterfall and boat rentals.

The community was begun by Carma in the last 1980’s. Cottage-country architecture is casually elegant. Richly detailed. Distinguished by obvious craftsmanship. Heartland is building starter homes, and Bay West, Cardel, Cedarglen and Jayman are building move-up homes in Auburn Bay, and Albi and Morrison are building Estate/Executive homes. The community is expected to be fully developed by 2020.

Copperfield is located between 146 Avenue and Highway 22X. To the north of 146th Avenue is “New Brighton.”

To the west of the community is the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club, on the bank of the Bow River. Race City Speedway is a few kilometres to the north of the community. The nearest movie theatre multiplex is in Shawnessy, west of MacLeod Trail.

Starter homes from $325,000 in Copperfield are built by Jayman, and Sabal. Starter townhomes from $280,000 are built by Sabal. Move-up homes are built by Homes by Avi, Broadview, Sabal, Stepper. Executive homes in the community start of $500,000 are being built by Albi and Jayman Master Builder. Lots of Calgary SE homes to choose from that are done by Calgary’s best known home-builders.

Cranston is on the east side of the Bow River and west of Deerfoot Trail, and south of the 22X Marquis of Lorne Trail. Very good access to Downtown and shopping via Deerfoot Trail.

The area has its own strip mall on Cranston Boulevard, with additional stores in nearby McKenzie Towne. There’s also Douglas Square up the Deerfoot, and to the north in Douglas Glen. The largest area shopping centre is the “big box” shopping area with a movie multiplex in Shaughnessy off Macleod Trail, via 22X.

There are over 20 acres of parkspace within the first five phases of development and over 2 km of pathways winding throughout the community, connecting various parks and tot-lots. In addition to all of this lush greenspace, residents can quickly access Fish Creek Park via the regional pathway connection at the end of Cranleigh Gate.

This community is developed by Carma and has am mix of single-family starter homes, condos and estate homes. Home builders include Discover, Beattie, Cardel and Cederglen, with condos from Silhouette, and Estate homes from Baywest, Greenboro, and Jayman,

Douglasdale/Glen are wrapped between the Deerfoot Trail and the southern stretches of the Bow River. The entire community is built around the Douglasdale Estates Golf Club, with houses on both sides of the fairways.

On the west edge of the community, on both banks of the Bow River, is Fish Creek Provincial Park. The park also encompasses Lake Sikome, Fish Creek and connects fully to Calgary’s extensive recreational pathway system, via a new pedestrian bridge just south of the Deerfoot Trail bridge.

The community was begun in 1982, and now has over 2,000 homes. New Calgary SE homes are in Douglas Glen, with 200 of 700 lots now built. Starter homes are being built by Albi, Avi, Jager, Jayman, and Shane. Move-up homes (in The Parks) are being built by Beattie, Glenwood, Sterling and in Douglas Glen by Gemcraft, Jager, Jayman, Today’s Homes, Shane.

McKenzie Lake is on the east side of the Bow River and west of Deerfoot Trail, and south of the 22X Marquis of Lorne Trail. Very good access to Downtown and shopping via Deerfoot Trail.

Chinook Nature Park, a new park is located south of the escarpment and a recent addition to Fish Creek Park are adjoining, with a pedestian bridge to Lake Sikome, Fish Creek and to Calgary’s extensive recreational pathway system. To the north is the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club, on the bank of the Bow River, to the south via Deerfoot Trail (#2 Highway) Are Carnmoney, Cottonwood and Heritage Pointe golf clubs.

McKenzie Towne is nestled east of the Deerfoot Trail to the east and north of Marquis of Lorne Trail, beside the McKenzie Lake community. The community is innovatively built around a town square, with several past-era architectural details, including a picturesque square, a 92-foot clock spire and a Victorian bandshell.

McKenzie Town Hall is a 15,600 sq. ft. building with a gymnasium (for floor hockey, basketball and community events) and several multi-purpose rooms, a patio and a deck. The community has soccer pitches and ball diamonds on the land reserved for a future public school. Inverness Pond, a 30-acre stormwater facility at the east side of the Towne adds to the relaxing scenery.
